A Big Deep Cave!

A short one to start

After arriving at Pencarnan and spending Saturday settling in, we had a late paddle over to Porth Melgan for a warm up.
Dad was straight into the swing of things, looking very comfortable in the Tsunami.
Its looks only a short hop over to the other side of Whitesands Bay, and seems too easy at first, but actually its further than you think and can be subject to some really choppy water. Today is almost flat though.

We found a reasonable sized cave and had a little explore, but on leaving and passing through a rock outcrop......
This un-named cave was at 728 276. It was an unexpected find and has to be the deepest cave I have been in yet. I think I reached the back, but it was so far in, that without a head torch I couldn't see much more.
Dad was just a speck in the distance veiwed from the back of the cave.
We paddled into Porth Melgan, had a coffee and a biscuit, and then headed West along to St Davids head.

We passed under a group of climbers, one of whom gave in and bailed out onto the safety line just prior to me taking this picture.

We went right out to St Davids head to have a look. It looked as if it would be a comfortable and relatively easy paddle if we so wished.

We then took a straight course across toward Carreg-gafieliog, and found the water to be a bit more lively here as we were almost out of the line of the Bay.

The view of Carn Llidi from out at sea is one you don't see very often.

We arrived back at Porthsele without incident but found it to be rather busy.

All in all, an interesting paddle showing that new discoveries can be made even in somewhere you think you know well.

Roughly 2.5 miles, with a 10 mph SW wind
